York Regional Police Launch Project Wholesale to Combat Retail Theft
York Regional Police have launched an initiative to address organized retail theft in Aurora and Newmarket.
The York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau has started Project Wholesale, a proactive enforcement effort targeting organized retail theft in Aurora and Newmarket. The project began on June 1, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on September 1, 2026.
The initiative aims to reduce financial losses for retailers, improve safety and security, and address the impact of organized retail crime. York Regional Police crime analysts and investigators are using a data-driven approach to identify and disrupt organized theft groups operating in Aurora, Newmarket, and across York Region. High-risk retail locations have been identified through historical trends, retailer intelligence, police data, and active investigations.
