York Region and York Regional Police Implement Next Generation 9-1-1

The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police have transitioned to the Next Generation 9-1-1 network for emergency communications.

By York Happening Newsroom

The Regional Municipality of York, in partnership with York Regional Police (YRP), has transitioned to the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) network. This change aims to enhance emergency communications and support future service delivery.

NG9-1-1 is a Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission mandated technology network upgrade. It provides a secure and reliable digital infrastructure, which improves location accuracy and prepares the emergency services network for future communication advancements. YRP operates the main 9-1-1 call centre for York Region, answering emergency calls and connecting them to appropriate services.

YRP partnered with Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service for this project. The Ontario government has provided over $1.4 million since 2022 to support YRP’s transition to NG9-1-1. These changes will not affect members of the public who dial 9-1-1 for emergency help.
