Police Appeal for Witnesses Following Overnight Arsons in Markham
York Regional Police are seeking witnesses after three overnight arsons occurred in Markham.
York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses following three overnight arsons in Markham. On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 4:30 a.m., police responded to a fire at a business near Highway 7 East and Ninth Line. Markham Fire and Emergency Services extinguished a small fire with minimal damage.
Shortly after, police were dispatched to another business near Markham Road and Castlemore Avenue for a fire, which Markham Fire and Emergency Services also extinguished, resulting in minimal damage. No suspect description was obtained for either incident.
At 5:51 a.m., police attended a third business fire near Markham Road and 16th Avenue. Markham Fire and Emergency Services quickly extinguished this fire, which also caused minimal damage. In this incident, two suspects were seen exiting a black Dodge Durango, using an accelerant to start the fire, and then fleeing westbound on 16th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
An accelerant was used in all three incidents. All businesses were unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. It is currently unknown if the three arsons are connected.
