Four Suspects Charged in Auto Theft Investigation

York Regional Police have charged four suspects following an investigation into a violent auto theft group operating in York Region and the GTA.

The York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) began an investigation in May 2026 into a crime group linked to motor vehicle thefts across the Greater Toronto Area. Officers identified multiple suspects involved in stealing vehicles in York Region, Toronto, and Peel Region, with incidents including firearms and violence.

On May 26, 2026, suspects attempted to steal a vehicle near Woodbine Avenue and Shields Court in Markham. Investigators, with assistance from Air Support and Canine units, located the suspects and followed them to an address in Brampton. Three suspects were taken into custody, and a loaded firearm and controlled substances were seized.

On June 3, 2026, a fourth suspect was arrested near Highway 50 and McEwan Drive in Caledon. Throughout the investigation, ACTU recovered three stolen vehicles with an approximate combined value of $400,000. The investigation is ongoing.
