About This Event
New to Canada and need to understand the Canadian tax system?
This program introduces new Canadians to the purpose of taxes, how the Canadian tax system works, and the role of the Canada Revenue Agency. It explains who pays taxes, what types of income are taxed—both Canadian and foreign—and why filing a tax return is essential for accessing benefits, deductions, and credits.
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn how to prepare and file a tax return, what happens after it is submitted
- Learn how to use the CRA’s “My Account” for secure online services.
- Learn good tax practices, including seeking reliable advice and understanding the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion.
