About This Event

Markham Public Library is looking for the BEST Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player in York Region (Open to all ages 0-99+) Do you have what it takes to bring home the 1st place trophy in our tournament? May the best player win! 


Feel free to join the waitlist - if the waitlist exceeds 32 people - we may expand the tournament bracket.

Parents/guardians are required to stay with their kids under 12 for this unsupervised event.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Switch Tournament


Location: Markham Village Library (Program Room)


Date: Saturday, July 4th, 2026


Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm


Cost: Free – Registration Required


Age Group: All Ages (0-99+) If you have skills, bring it!😊


Tournament Rules:



  • Players must have a Markham Public Library card

  • Any player 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on event day

  • Only players that have been registered on the Markham Public Library events page are allowed to play in this tournament. If you are unable to make it on the day of – you can unregister on the events page or e-mail Alex at [email protected] so other players on the waitlist can play.

  • All players will use the Switch 2 joystick controllers provided by the library organizer. This will help speed up the time in-between rounds.

  • Absolutely no foul language or name-calling at the event or towards other players/organizers. This will result in automatic disqualification. This is a competitive friendly environment.

  • No using cheats/or exploiting glitches

  • No Teaming Up

  • Matchups for the tournament will be randomized before the event takes place. Players will find out who they are up against on the day of the tournament.

  • In the event of a power loss or system freeze, players will be asked to keep their same characters, and the match will be restarted.

  • If a player’s controller that they have brought in fails to work during the match – the match will not be restarted

  • Battle Stages will be chosen at random

  • Registered players need to check-in at the Markham Village Library Program Room Registration desk by 12:40pm
    on the day of the tournament or else their spot will be forfeited.


Tournament Set-Up:


Elimination Style:


Quarterfinals: Top two finishers in each match will move on to the semi-finals.


Semi-Finals: Top finisher in each of the semi-finals matches will move on to the finals.


Finals: Top finisher will be the ultimate winner.




  • If there is a long waitlist – the tournament bracket MAY be expanded.

Game Settings:


How many players in one match: 4 players in each match


Stock: 3


Time Limit: 5 minutes


CPU: None


Match Arena: Random


Items: Medium (All items available)


Characters: All characters (including DLC characters) are available


In the event of a tie in a match where the game cannot determine a winner: The (1st) tiebreaker will consist of - The most stock life left. If players have the same stock number, then it will come down to (2) who has the least damage percentage at the end of the match.


Finals Match will have all the rules above except for the Time Limit which will be 10 minutes.
