Finding Your Memoir: Which Story Do I Tell?
Thursday, November 12, 2026
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
About This Event
This workshop will start with a brief review of the difference between memoir, biography and autobiography. We’ll discuss types of memoirs and where they are found on shelves in libraries and bookstores. The workshop will focus on key elements of memoir writing such as defining the point, theme, and time-frame. It will include how to engage the reader, and decide what to include and what to leave out. We will spend time on writing exercises during the workshop to elicit topics for personal memoir explorations, then dive deeper to focus on specific time frames or themes for development of each person’s memoir possibilities. As we are the protagonist in our own memoir, we will explore the arc of change the protagonist experienced. We will attempt to write an elevator pitch that encompasses the story of our memoir so we can see the book coming to life. Participants will leave with concrete ideas they can continue to pursue to develop their memoirs. As time permits, the writers will be encouraged to share their ideas and receive supportive feedback from the group and the instructor, encouraging them to write more!
